I overheard a conversation the other day that got a little heated. I heard one of the people involved say " You can catch more flies with honey that you can with vinegar" and then they stomped off. I have heard this saying before, but as usually happens to me this time it struck me a little different. I understand the concept. The sweeter you are to people the better your result will be.... the more sour or bitter you are the more of that reaction you will receive. And that is true.
But I wanted to break it down further, more literally if I could. So here it goes as I see it. You can catch more flies with honey... OK great... but what if you don't want flies. I know I don't want flies... Wouldn't it be better to focus on what you want to attract than something you don't want. And shouldn't you think about what else you might attract that you don't want.. maybe bears? An dtruthful isn't there something else out there that attract flies better if that's what you want.
Here's the lesson I take from this. If you want flys great... use honey, be aware or what else you might attract and ask yourself first if there is something else that might work better.
If you don't want flys... find out what you need to put out there to attract what it is you really want. Put that out there instead.
